Position Summary

The Microsoft 365 Technical Lead provides advanced technical leadership and hands-on

experience across Microsoft technologies, such as the Microsoft 365 toolkit, SharePoint, Exchange, OneDrive, Power Platform, Viva suite, AI, and automation.

This lead will be responsible for designing, implementing, and providing operational support for enterprise collaboration platforms, ensuring secure, scalable, and reliable solutions that enhance user adoption, productivity, and user experience. Experience with Core M365 toolkit, AI and Automation, Modern Work tools, Power Platform, and macOS client support is a must. The position is primarily remote with occasional travel to Boston, MA, and offers strong potential for conversion to a permanent role.

Key Responsibilities

Platform Administration

  • Administer and optimize Microsoft 365 workloads, including Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, OneDrive for Business, Microsoft Teams, and related collaboration services.
  • Experience supporting secure mail flow, mailbox management, email authentication (SPF, DKIM, DMARC), encryption, and advanced threat protection technologies using Proofpoint or Microsoft Defender email security.
  • Manage Teams, SharePoint Online, and OneDrive architecture, including site provisioning, permissions, metadata, content lifecycle, search configuration, and compliance settings.
  • Oversee Microsoft Viva modules (Connections, Engage, Insights, Learning) and Microsoft Search configuration to improve employee experience and findability.
  • Support governance for the Power Platform (Power Apps, Power Automate, Power BI, Power Pages), including environment strategy, DLP policies, and solution lifecycle practices.
  • Administer Power BI Service, including workspace governance, certified datasets, row level security, and usage analytics.
  • Assist with Copilot configuration, governance, and adoption across Microsoft 365 applications to support secure and compliant AI usage.

Client Support & Enablement

  • Provide expert consulting to departments on how to use Microsoft 365 tools to improve workflows, automation, collaboration, and productivity.
  • Deliver Tier 2/3 support for Outlook, Teams, OneDrive, and other M365 applications,
  • resolving escalations efficiently and accurately.
  • Create and deliver training materials, documentation, knowledge articles, and presentations for diverse technical and business audiences.
  • Serve as a responder for collaboration-related Jira tickets, ensuring thorough investigation, timely resolution, and proper escalation.
  • Support seamless end-user experiences across Windows, macOS, and mobile platforms.

Governance & Compliance

  • Contribute to the technical documentation, architectural diagrams, deployment guides, and standard operating procedures for M365 services.
  • Partner with the Security team to implement retention policies, sensitivity labels, audit logging, information barriers, and data protection controls across M365 workloads.
  • Partner with Legal and Compliance teams on eDiscovery, Litigation Hold, and records management requirements.
  • Enforce governance standards for SharePoint structure, Teams provisioning, external sharing, and lifecycle management.
  • Ensure adherence to HIPAA, GDPR, and organizational data protection policies across Microsoft 365 services.

Architecture & Deployment

  • Partner with Enterprise Architects and Solution Architects to design and implement scalable, secure, and integrated Microsoft 365 solutions that align with enterprise strategy.
  • Lead architecture planning for SharePoint Online and Teams, including taxonomy, navigation, hub site strategy, information architecture, and site lifecycle governance.
  • Drive deployment of SharePoint Online Solutions, SPFx components, Power Platform applications, Microsoft Viva modules, and approved third-party integrations.
  • Collaborate with infrastructure, security, and identity teams on Entra ID integrations, Conditional Access strategy, M365 licensing alignment, and platform resilience.
  • Partner with the security team to support identity governance, PIM, application integrations, and authentication/authorization patterns within the M365 ecosystem

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in information technology, Computer Science, or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 7+ years of experience administering Microsoft Exchange Online
  • 7+ years of experience supporting Microsoft 365 collaboration platforms (SharePoint, Teams, OneDrive).
  • Proficiency in PowerShell scripting for automation and reporting.
  • Experience with Proofpoint or Defender email security systems and Microsoft 365 compliance tools.
  • Strong understanding of client access controls, including Conditional Access and MFA.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills; comfortable speaking to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and collaborate across departments.
  • Experience with Copilot governance and integration, Entra ID administration or conceptual knowledge, and end-user/macOS device support is a must
