Senior DevOps Engineer (Azure)
Location: 100% Remote - Remote (West Coast Healthcare Client)
Duration: 6-Month Contract
Overview
We are seeking a Senior DevOps Engineer (Azure) to join a leading West Coast healthcare organization on a fully remote, 6-month contract. This role will focus on designing, building, and operating secure, scalable cloud infrastructure and CI/CD pipelines to support enterprise, clinical, and AI-driven workloads.
You will play a key role in advancing cloud platform capabilities, driving DevOps best practices, and enabling high-performing engineering and data teams. This includes supporting next-generation AI/ML initiatives through robust MLOps and automation frameworks in a highly regulated healthcare environment.
Key Responsibilities
Cloud Platform Engineering & Infrastructure as Code
- Design and implement Azure cloud infrastructure using Terraform, Bicep, and ARM templates
- Build and maintain scalable Azure landing zones and foundational services
- Standardize provisioning using Azure Policy, Managed Identities, and Key Vault
CI/CD & Automation
- Own and optimize Azure DevOps and GitHub environments (Pipelines, Actions, Repos)
- Develop reusable pipeline templates and automation frameworks
- Enable secure, efficient software delivery through multi-stage YAML pipelines and deployment gating
MLOps & AI Enablement
- Support AI/ML initiatives by implementing MLOps workflows using Azure Machine Learning and Kubernetes (AKS)
- Build pipelines for model training, deployment, monitoring, and versioning
- Ensure observability across model performance, drift, and reliability
Observability & Reliability Engineering
- Establish and manage SLIs/SLOs and system monitoring
- Implement telemetry using Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, and Application Insights
- Lead incident response, root cause analysis, and reliability improvements
Security & Compliance
- Embed DevSecOps best practices (SAST, DAST, secrets scanning, IaC scanning)
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA/HITRUST standards and secure handling of sensitive healthcare data
- Implement policy-as-code and secure networking (Private Link, VNET integration)
Cost Optimization
- Monitor and optimize Azure spend through tagging, budgeting, and rightsizing
- Improve performance efficiency across compute, storage, and networking services
Collaboration & Leadership
- Partner with cross-functional teams across Security, Data, AI, and Engineering
- Mentor junior engineers and promote DevOps best practices
- Contribute to platform strategy, tooling decisions, and technical standards
Required Qualifications
- 7+ years of experience in DevOps, SRE, or Platform Engineering
- 4+ years of hands-on Microsoft Azure experience
- Strong expertise in:
- Azure DevOps (Pipelines, Repos, Artifacts)
- GitHub (Actions, Advanced Security)
- Infrastructure as Code (Terraform and/or Bicep)
- Experience with scripting and automation (PowerShell, Python, Bash)
- Hands-on experience with Docker and Kubernetes (AKS)
- Strong knowledge of monitoring and observability tools in Azure
- Proven experience implementing DevSecOps practices
- Experience working in regulated environments (HIPAA, HITRUST, etc.)
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting AI/ML or LLM platforms (Azure ML, Azure OpenAI, etc.)
- Familiarity with GitOps tools (Argo CD, Flux)
- Strong understanding of Azure networking (Hub/Spoke, Private Link, VPN, DNS)
- Experience with Key Vault and enterprise secret management
- Exposure to security tools such as GitHub Advanced Security, CodeQL, Defender for Cloud
- Knowledge of data platforms (Databricks, Synapse) or streaming tools (Kafka, Event Hubs)
- Relevant certifications (nice to have):
- AZ-400, AZ-104, AZ-305
- CKA/CKAD
- SC-100/200, DP-100
