Role Summary
The Lawson Procurement Specialist / Buyer is responsible for executing daily procurement operations within the Lawson ERP environment, including requisition processing, purchase order creation, vendor coordination, order tracking, and contract compliance. This role supports departmental purchasing needs while ensuring accurate transaction processing, timely delivery of goods, and adherence to organizational procurement policies.
Key Responsibilities
- Process approved requisitions and convert them into purchase orders within Lawson Supply Chain Management (SCM) and Procurement modules.
- Validate pricing, contract terms, and vendor information against established agreements, GPO contracts, and approved supplier catalogs.
- Create, maintain, and transmit purchase orders to vendors through GHX, EDI, email, or other approved ordering channels.
- Monitor open purchase orders, track delivery schedules, and proactively follow up with vendors regarding backorders, delays, or shipment issues.
- Coordinate with receiving departments to ensure timely receipt of purchased goods and resolution of discrepancies.
- Support healthcare supply chain operations by prioritizing urgent, clinical, and patient-care related purchases.
- Assist departments with Lawson requisition entry, catalog ordering, punchout functionality, and product selection.
- Process purchase order modifications, cancellations, returns, and vendor communications as required.
- Ensure compliance with procurement policies, approved vendor contracts, and organizational purchasing standards.
- Maintain accurate purchasing documentation and transaction records for audit and compliance purposes.
- Respond to inquiries regarding order status, delivery timelines, vendor information, and procurement procedures.
- Escalate contract, pricing, sourcing, or supplier performance issues to senior procurement leadership as needed.
Required Experience
- 3+ years of procurement, purchasing, or supply chain experience, preferably within healthcare, hospital, or integrated delivery network (IDN) environments.
- Hands-on experience with Lawson SCM / Procurement, including requisition management, purchase order processing, vendor management, and order tracking.
- Experience utilizing GHX Exchange and Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) for vendor ordering and procurement transactions.
- Strong understanding of procure-to-pay (P2P) workflows, including requisition approval processes, purchase order lifecycle management, receiving, and invoice matching.
- Knowledge of healthcare purchasing contracts, GPO agreements, item master management, and supply chain best practices.
- Ability to troubleshoot purchasing issues within Lawson and support end users with procurement-related inquiries.
- Strong attention to detail with demonstrated accuracy in purchase order creation, pricing validation, and vendor communication.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills when working with clinical departments, suppliers, and supply chain teams.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and support urgent purchasing requests in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
